How PRP Can Treat More Than Just Pain

How PRP Can Treat More Than Just Pain

Your blood is miraculous. It fights infections. It also delivers oxygen and nutrients throughout your body so it can work its best. Did you know your blood also harnesses the ability to regenerate damaged muscles and skin cells?

Platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) involves the injection of a concentrated platelet sample to supercharge your body with healing properties. You might have heard about celebrities – like Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant – who have used PRP.

Although pain or injury is a common use for PRP, it isn’t the only use. PRP can also be used for cosmetic enhancements like hair regrowth and skin rejuvenation.

Texas Wellness Institute provides PRP to patients in Richmond Texas, who want a safe and natural way to improve their life – whether to eliminate pain, stimulate hair growth, or address aging concerns.

How it works

Developed in the 1970s, PRP was first used during open-heart surgery in the 1980s and has been used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal pain and injuries ever since. More recently, PRP has been used cosmetically for skin renewal and hair restoration.

No matter the goal of PRP, the process is the same. Ijeoma Linda Bethel, DNP, starts your PRP treatment by answering any questions you have and explaining the process. Next, Dr. Bethel draws 15-50 milliliters of blood from your arm.

By spinning your blood on a centrifuge, Dr. Bethel separates the solid and liquid parts of your blood to create the concentrated platelet sample. Lastly, the PRP is administered in two ways – through injection or with microneedling.

Turn back the clock on your appearance

When you were younger, you probably took your smooth and supple-looking skin for granted. As most of us enter our 30s, we experience wrinkles, dull skin, and large pores. Microneedling with PRP is an all-natural way to whisk away these skin imperfections for a radiant complexion again.

Microneedling with PRP can improve:

After drawing your blood, Dr. Bethel applies a topical anesthetic to your face and neck. Using a SkinPen® – a device filled with tiny microscopic needles – she creates tiny lesions in your skin to stimulate cellular turnover and ramp up your collagen.

This creates the perfect channels for PRP, which Dr. Bethel applies to your skin and advises you to leave on for six to eight hours. PRP when used with microneedling speeds up your downtime, allowing you to return to work the next day.

Get thicker hair again

Have you noticed your hair is thinning? Roughly 66% of men experience some degree of hair loss by the age of 35. Though some people aren’t bothered by hair loss, others wish to do something about it.

PRP for hair loss works by directly injecting the sample into the areas you’ve experienced balding. By stimulating inactive hair follicles, PRP can help decrease hair shedding while also growing thicker follicles.

Benefits of PRP for hair restoration:

The procedure takes about 30 minutes and should be done in three sessions about five to six weeks apart.

Five times more platelets

The secret of PRP lies in the platelets. PRP contains up to five times the amount of platelets as normal blood. Platelets help aid inflammation, while repairing and renewing skin cells. Platelets encourage the growth of new blood vessels to help further healing.

Whether you want to get younger skin, restore your hair, or heal from an injury, PRP is a safe treatment that provides effective results and no downtime.
